When you need a 15 KB image
15 KB sits in the middle of common signature ranges (often 10–20 KB), so it's a safe target when a form gives a minimum and a maximum.
Getting the best quality at 15 KB
Aiming for 15 KB leaves room on both sides of a 10–20 KB range. Dark ink on white paper compresses far better than a photo of a signature on a desk.
Common upload limits on official forms
Many passport, visa and exam portals reject a file by size, not by how it looks. Limits people commonly report:
| Form or portal | Reported size limit |
|---|---|
| UK passport photo | 50 KB – 10 MB |
| Canada visa photo | 200 KB – 5 MB |
| New Zealand visa photo | 500 KB – 3 MB |
| US DV lottery photo | max 240 KB |
| Exam signatures (e.g. SSC) | 10 – 20 KB |
These figures come from public guides and change often — always check the official instructions for your specific form before uploading.
Watch out for minimum sizes too
Some portals set a minimum as well as a maximum — a signature that must be "between 10 KB and 20 KB" will be rejected at 8 KB just as surely as at 25 KB. If your form gives a range, aim for the middle of it. You can set any exact target on the custom size page.
If the target can't be reached
Very small or already-optimized images sometimes can't be squeezed to an exact size without visible damage. When that happens we tell you plainly instead of quietly shrinking the dimensions or pretending it worked — you'll always know the real size of the file you download.
Other sizes: 10 KB · 20 KB · 25 KB · 30 KB · 50 KB · 100 KB · 200 KB · 500 KB · custom size
How to use the compress to target size
- Add your images.
- Enter the maximum size in KB.
- We lower quality first, then dimensions only if needed.
- Check the result — we clearly flag any file that couldn't fit.
How we hit the target
We search for the highest quality that fits under your limit. If even low quality is too big, we shrink the dimensions step by step. We stop before the image becomes unusably small and tell you honestly if the target wasn't reached.
Output format
Results are saved as JPG (best compatibility) or WebP (smaller). Transparent areas become white in JPG.
