How to Reduce Image File Size Without Losing Quality
Most oversized images have one of three problems: they're too many pixels, in the wrong format, or saved at needlessly high quality.
1. Resize to the size you actually need
A phone photo is often 4000 pixels wide, but a blog shows it at 1200. Resizing first is the single biggest saving — often 80% or more.
2. Choose the right format
Photos belong in JPG or WebP. Keep PNG for graphics with sharp edges or transparency.
3. Use a quality of 70–80%
For JPG and WebP, quality between 70 and 80 is almost always indistinguishable from the original while being far smaller.
4. Check the result
Compare before and after side by side. If you see blur or banding, nudge the quality up a little.
